The Metacognitive Expertise Assessment Tool (the ME-AT™)

Effective and meaningful learning is a fundamental foundation for academic achievement and life opportunities. At EdWay Academy we believe that it is critical to not only provide academic content that is relevant and current but also applicable to life goals. Academic content combined with instructional design strategies that are driven by sound pedagogy and cognitive principles are at the core of all EdWay courses and programs.

Often cognitive principles and metacognitive concepts are overlooked in the design and delivery of educational content. If you consider most classroom environments the substantive principles of the subject guide the instruction rather than pedagogy. We believe that for both classroom and web-based learning the content must be guided by pedagogy grounded in the doctrines of cognitive psychology – primarily those of a constructivist and metacognitive nature.

Dr. Katherine Pang earned her PhD in Educational psychology as well as a Masters in Educational Technology because these combined fields provide all EdWay learning with a deep emphasis in these values. To facilitate student success, Dr. Pang has developed an assessment tool, the Metacognitive expertise assessment tool, the ME-AT™, and used it in an empirical study to demonstrate that strong metacognitive skills are correlated to high academic achievement, as measured by GPA.

Those who score high on the MEAT will usually have higher GPAs than those who score low on the ME-AT™. In order to gain a better understanding of where the strengths and weaknesses are in a learner’s metacognitive skill set we encourage each learner to take the ME-AT™ and receive an analysis and score that will be directly tied to specific areas where a learner can improve his or her skills and apply them for academic success.

You may take the ME-AT™ online and receive a confidential score and analysis within 72 hours by e-mail.  The cost is $25.00. To take the ME-AT™ please click here.

Please note there is a course, Cognitive Strategies for Learning, which includes access to the ME-AT™. If you plan on taking this course, there is no need to purchase the ME-AT™ separately.
